You Can’t polish a Turd…or Can You?

#1 Daniel Jones

Yes, I am talking about trip on air when you are 15 yards from a touchdown and no one is in front of you, 160 million dollar contract, has done nothing, Daniel Jones. I have spoken about Jones previously, but he is at the top of my list.

Current Value

Jones is currently floating around QB30. He is sitting right around Geno Smith and Sam Howell. To put that into perspective, Geno and Sam are both in their early 30s and will be competing for the same starting quarterback job. A 26-year-old Daniel Jones who is in the second year of his 160 million dollar contract and locked in QB1 is ranked just above those two geriatrics and one of them might not even start. Jones is down bad now, and you could probably get him for scraps from people who are over him. Think late 4th or early 5th range.

Turd polish

The Giants drafted one of the best WRs in the draft Malik Nabors. He has 2nd year rookie speedster in Jaylin Hyatt who showed flashes last year by being able to spread the field. This fits in perfectly with Nabors. The Giants didn’t re-sign Saquan but went out and got a capable rusher in Devin Singletary and they have a healthy TE Darren Waller. All of this is good news, but the real winner was the free agency offseason for the Giants.

The offensive line will be a priority.
— Giants GM Joe Schoen

The Giants went out and signed 5 offensive linemen consisting of at least 3 new starters. With a healthy Thomas Andrew and 3 new starters, the Giant’s offensive line has become a respectable product. This year, the projections are looking much better as they are sitting at 13. While these projections are pre-draft rankings, this time last year they were sitting at 32. I would say they made it a priority, at least in the offseason they did.

This shows a direct sign that the Giants are spending what little money they can, to give Daniel Jones a shot. They want him to succeed if they are paying him all this money. They want to win football games. The Giants want him to do well, and I think his value will increase as the season progresses. Also, the Giants had stellar defensive picks in the draft to fill their holes and went out and signed Isaiah Simmons in free agency. While they aren’t investing as fiercely as the Bears, the pieces are in place for a productive season.

This is a low-risk investment for a potential top-15 QB in 2024. If this is too risky for you, get ready to pick him up off the waiver wire in week 3 of your re-draft leagues.

#2 Guess That Football Player

Table 1
QB1 QB2
Games Played 50 49
Completion Percentage 63.8% 62.6%
Yards 11,700 9,937
Touchdowns 58 59
Interceptions 39 24
RTG 85 90.2
Made with HTML Tables

Current Value

After looking at the two charts, you would probably go with the QB2 because of the 15 fewer interceptions and the higher rating. QB2 is ranked as a QB35, he is floating around Spencer Rattler and Sam Darnold range. He is grossly undervalued at the moment. You could get him for guys like Juan Jennings, Sky Moore, and a late 5th or 6th-rounder. Buy now while you still can.

Turd polish

QB2 just signed a 15 million dollar two-year contract with the Raiders and goes by Gardner Minshew. The QB1 is the starting quarterback for the Jaguars Trevor Lawrence. I provided you with these stats, not too slight T Law…okay maybe a little, but more so to show that Minshew is a viable starting quarterback. In the offseason, I truly believe that Antonio Pierce is going to figure that out. As a players coach, he doesn’t care what you look like or the stigma around you, and simply wants to win. By August Minshew will be taking QB1 snaps. While Aiden O’Connell is a young rookie, he was not great last year. He was a 4th round pick, so there isn’t much invested if he doesn’t work out. Antonio Pierce has a team that can win now, which they showed when he took over last season. He isn’t going to want to wait around until Aiden figures it out. At 28 years old, if Minshaw produces during the season, he could find a future role in the franchise. While I do not think Minshew is a turd, this is more of a diamond in the poo scenario.

#3 A.T. Perry

Current Value

A.T. Perry is drastically underrated. He is WR90 in dynasty. He might be sitting on the waiver wire in some leagues because of his lack of involvement last year. If Perry is available, he is a great stash or worth a low-round pick. With a very low investment, you get the opportunity to own him for when he breaks out this year. All this man needs is a shot.

Turd polish

Perry is a 6’4” monster who attacks the ball in the air. Last year, he didn’t get any opportunities. He was behind a wall of old WRs and only saw 18 targets barely sniffing the field. With those 18 targets, he caught 12 of them, went 248 yards, and scored 2 touchdowns. Below I break down how these statistics perfectly embody who he is when he is given opportunities. While it is still early, Perry is slotted to be a WR2 on the Saints. In college, Perry posted a YPRR (Yards Per Route Run) of a 2.44. A 2.50 measures WRs who should be taken in rounds 1-3, but Perry went in the 6th. This resulted in his lack of playing time on the field.

His 2.44 YPRR was astounding because in college he was the league leader in routes run as the isolated receiver. This requires receivers to win a lot of routes on their own. He was also his college’s workhorse seeing a target share of 27.6% which means he had to win the ball for his team to be successful. This makes it even more challenging to attain that high of a 2.44 YPRR. Perry has the size and Perry has the ability. All he needs is the opportunity. And as we know, with opportunity, comes production. The Saints only drafted one WR in round 5 Bub Means. I do not believe he is relevant based on is college production. The Saints will give Perry the looks he needs to break out this year. I hope you own him when it happens.
